    The Lindisfarne Gospels are thought to be written and decorated at the end of the 7th Century by Eadfrith, a monk who became a Bishop of Lindisfarne in Later, Aldred, Provost of Chester-le-Street wrote in an English translation directly in between the lines of the Latin text; This is the earliest surviving English translation of the Gospels!
